What do you do with a story that only starts on a concept that leads you to something ridiculous?The World Ends with You does just that by throwing you into a scenario with no sense, having you piece together the situation as he goes on. Set in a the present day Shibuya, the environment is filled with technology, fashion, and trends. In combination with its unique graffiti-like art style, the music serves to present the game as a unique entity, the first of a new style of game. We have seen the games where the selling points, “hip” and “radical” served to create only a minor novelty following because of the concept’s ridiculousness. This game may be among the few that has succeeded in turning that concept into a powerful tool.
